Murat Tabanlıoğlu (RIBA, Int’l Assoc. AIA) explores the intersection of infrastructure, culture, and public life through architecture. Educated at the Vienna University of Technology, his career unfolds across four continents, from Istanbul to New York, London to Hong Kong. His projects—whether reimagining Istanbul’s Atatürk Cultural Center, shaping the luminous Milas-Bodrum International Airport, defining the skyline with Istanbul Sapphire, or reviving the historic Haliç Shipyard—are conceived as narratives that connect people, place, and memory.

Award-winning works such as Loft Gardens (RIBA 2011), Bodrum Airport (RIBA 2013), and the Beyazıt State Library (Mies van der Rohe finalist 2017, Aga Khan finalist 2019) embody this approach. Beyond architecture, he engages with cultural discourse: curating Places of Memory at the Venice Architecture Biennale (2014), staging Port City Talks at MAS Antwerp (2015), and reimagining AKM through an exhibition in Berlin (2018). His installation housEmotion, shown in Milan, London, and Dubai, reflects his ongoing exploration of architecture’s emotional dimension.

Equally committed to teaching, Tabanlıoğlu mentors future generations through masterclasses at Istanbul Bilgi University and Kadir Has University, and lectures widely across the globe. His cross-disciplinary ethos is captured in the books Transparency and Modernity (2014) and Stage_0 (2018), which chart his dialogue between heritage and innovation.future-facing.

Carrying his legacy into the future, +MURAT TABANLIOGLU is a research-driven studio dedicated to emotionally intelligent, hybrid architecture that reshapes urban narratives for the future. The practice follows three guiding principles: Tailoring, Trust, and Heritage. We believe architecture is never generic—it must be carefully shaped to reflect the soul of its place. We build not just structures, but relationships—through open collaboration, shared authorship, and enduring presence. And we design with memory as both inspiration and foundation—merging legacy with innovation to craft spaces that are emotionally resonant, locally rooted, and boldly future-facing.

This studio, founded by Murat Tabanlıoğlu, no longer has any ties with other practices of a similar name.
