Astana Train Station is located within the city’s masterplan on a primary urban axis and set inside a large public park. Serving one of the world’s largest railway networks, the station was built to accommodate the opening of the Astana Expo and to function as a major national gateway. In a city where temperatures range from minus forty to plus forty degrees, the trains arrive and depart through an underground tunnel beneath the building. The main concourse is positioned on an elevated level accessed by viaduct roads, creating a clear separation between passenger circulation and rail operations.

The architectural identity of the station is defined by a steel structure wrapped in glass and lightweight aluminium panels, forming both the roof and the façade. All primary functions are gathered within this single, expansive space, which contains the entrances, offices, food and beverage areas and a hotel. The result is a contemporary transport hub that unifies movement, structure and climate-responsive design within one coherent environment.
