At Expo 2000 in Hannover, where leading architects such as Peter Zumthor and MVRDV presented national pavilions, the Turkey Pavilion introduced a distinctive architectural identity through its timber lattice façade. This secondary structural layer wrapped the main building, creating a transitional space between inside and outside. The ramp situated between the lattice and the primary volume offered visitors an intermediary zone, a place of pause and anticipation that shaped the experience of arrival.

The pavilion also marked an important cultural moment. After many years, the works of sculptor İlhan Koman were reintroduced to an international audience for the first time within this setting, bringing together contemporary architectural expression and significant artistic heritage.
