Located at the point where Vienna’s First and Fourth Districts meet, near the museum quarter at the beginning of Mariahilfer Straße, the project involves the transformation of an existing department store. The original reinforced-concrete structure is reconfigured to accommodate a new mixed-use program consisting of residences, a hotel and retail spaces.

Inspired by the 19th-century façades characteristic of the surrounding neighborhood, the proposed façade design introduces a contemporary tectonic expression. A transparent primary façade is paired with a secondary architectural “mask” placed in front of it, creating depth, rhythm and a dialogue with the historic streetscape while maintaining a distinctly modern identity.
